In this Chapter we are going to tackle the initial product development in terms of design and creation, pricing and manufacturing comes into it but we will go through that in the later chapters. One thing that I learnt is that just because some people say you need lots of money to devolved a product or something has to be done a certain way it is not the truth. It may be true to them from their own perception but if it was a truth then others being able to do it would not be a contradiction to the statement. I have spent a lot of money going through unnecessary developments, designs, engineering and tasks that did not need to happen and multiplying their costs, doing the same thing on every concept that did not need to happen until a final design. There is a correct time for everything. I want to be straight up and honest here, as much as there are nice companies, engineers and product designers, not all of them are ethical and want what is best for you, some will say something is necessary and charge you for the work where in reality it is not needed. I do not want you to spend all your savings on unneeded work that could be spent on manufacturing and marketing. If you spend all your money just on designs and development then you will not have much if any left to go into production. Most manufactures have a MOQ (minimum order quantity) that may be above your remaining budget.
we will be going through items such as
Drawing your design
Materials and processes
Getting your concept and sketches to the product designer and engineer
Getting an idea of the costs per design
Product development companies vs self sourcing
Putting it all together
